💡 Part 1: The Inquiry
The journey of this special project began when a customer reached out to Blue Sea Wood with a clear question: “Do you accept custom orders for wooden vanity countertops and can you pre-drill the drainage holes?”
This customer was planning a bathroom renovation and was looking for the natural charm of real wood. Their primary requirement was a dual-sink design, meaning the wood slab needed sufficient length and excellent load-bearing strength.
The Countertop Design: For the back edge, the client requested a “straight cut” so the top could be installed flush and seamlessly against the wall. Conversely, the front edge was to be left as a “Live Edge” to showcase the natural curves and organic beauty of the wood, adding a unique character to the piece.
On-Site Convenience: To ensure a smooth installation, the client provided the exact measurements and specified the precise locations for the sinks. This allowed us to manage the process of pre-drilling the drain holes (for the sink stoppers) entirely, making the piece ready for the plumber to easily connect the pipes upon delivery.
Upon receiving the detailed brief, our team wasted no time! We immediately checked our beautiful wood inventory to find the “perfect” slab for this custom project.

🪵 Part 2: The Selection and Confirmation
The brief required space for two sinks, meaning both the length and the width of the slab had to be exactly right. We meticulously searched and selected a large Monkey Pod slab with a highly distinctive and unique grain pattern. Crucially, we chose a slab that could be shaped precisely according to the client’s specifications: “Straight Cut Back – Natural Edge Front.”
Here’s how the edges were designed:
-
Edge 1: Straight Cut (Back) This edge was cut perfectly straight to allow for a seamless and flush installation against the bathroom wall. This prevents any difficult-to-clean gaps and gives the countertop a neat, built-in appearance.
-
Edge 2: Live Edge (Front) This edge was preserved in its natural state to showcase the genuine beauty and unique, organic curves of the real wood. This design perfectly merges the raw, rustic charm of nature with modern interior aesthetics.
Once we found the perfect piece, our team took photos of the raw wood, including the approximate dimensions written directly on the surface (as seen in the images). We sent these to the client for their review, ensuring they were fully satisfied with the wood’s form and unique grain pattern before we started cutting and finishing.

When the client was satisfied with their selection, we proceeded to meticulously discuss and re-check the dimensions and the exact location of the sink drain holes once more. This detailed confirmation was crucial to ensure that both designated spots were accurate and perfectly aligned with the piping distances the client had prepared at the installation site.
🛠️ Part 3: Drilling, Surface Preparation, and Transformation through Finishing
With the design and dimensions officially approved by the client, it was time for our craftsmen to begin cutting and shaping the raw wood slab into a stunning countertop.
The process began by leveling the surface of the wood. Following this, we proceeded to “drill the holes” for the two drainage stoppers exactly according to the precise measurements taken (you can see these clean, circular drill holes in the photos of the unfinished wood!). This step demands extreme precision, as it ensures that the final placement of the sinks is visually stunning and fits the plumbing distance perfectly.

We then proceeded to meticulously sand the surface until it was perfectly smooth to the touch, removing all splinters and imperfections. This prepared the slab for the most crucial step: The Finishing.
Since a bathroom countertop requires extreme durability against moisture and water, our team paid special attention to the coating process to perfectly protect the wood during daily use. The moment the coating was applied, the hidden natural patterns immediately revealed themselves. The wood transformed from a lighter raw state to a rich, deep color, dramatically enhancing the grain lines of the Monkey Pod wood. It became visibly more dimensional, glossy, and undeniably luxurious, now truly ready for functional use.
✨ Part 4: Delivery of Beauty… Straight to Your Home
Once the coating had completely dried and passed our final quality check on every detail, this gorgeous Monkey Pod wood countertop was ready to be shipped out.
We meticulously packaged the piece to ensure it was well-protected throughout its journey. This custom-made piece, featuring a practical straight edge for the wall and a stunning Live Edge front, along with all the precisely drilled drainage holes, was now perfectly prepared for the final installation at the client’s home. The only step left is for the plumber to connect the pipes and place the sinks!
